Information has lost credibility. There has never been so much information and there has never been so much dissatisfaction about information.
Journalism is based on three principles: searching of truth, respect for people, independence of judgement. Nowadays these three principles are no longer respected.
Before Internet, the question that a journalist was constantly forced to ask was where to find the sources. Nowadays this problem doesn’t exist anymore because in the Internet we can find a lot of information only with a mouse click. But there is another problem: the reliability of sources that is the reliability of people or documents that give informations about a particular event when a journalist is not a direct witness of the facts. The reliability of sources’ problem concerns in particular urban legends and conspiracy theories.
A conspiracy theory attributes the ultimate cause of an event or chain of events or the concealment of such causes from public knowledge, to a secret, and often deceptive plot by a group of powerful or influential people or organizations.
The american technology review Wired has published a top ten conspiracy theories that lists the most popular conspiracy theories. One of theese affirm that Lady Diana, the princess of Wales, was murderd on August 31, 1997
The circumstances surrounding the death of Diana have been the subject of numerous conspiracy theories, some perpetrated by Mohamed Al Fayed, whose son, Dodi Al-Fayed also died in the accident. Al Fayed has contended that the crash was orchestrated by MI6 on the instructions of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Another supporter of the conspiracy theory about Diana is the english writer David Icke who claims that the mind of Henri Paul was scheduled, the death of Diana was a ritual killing and Windsor are reptilians.
On January 6, 2004 began the last inquest into Lady Diana’s death. The jury decided on April 7, 2008 that Diana had been unlawfully killed by the grossly negligent driving of chauffeur Henri Paul and paparazzi photographers. So it was a simply accident but maybe it was the most strange accident in the history of traffic accidents.
The official version may still contain come douthful aspects. It is necessary to continue to pursue the truth in more detail. But sometimes in the official version cannot at all be sufficient to prove the credibility of the conspiracy theory. |
