Anti-Americanism in Egypt: Sayyd Qutb in America

Sayyd Qubt came from a fundamentalist family.
In 1948 he was sent by the Egyptian government to the U.S. to study American pedagogic system.
He wrote a diary that was published on the journal al-Risala. It is important to read his opinions in order to understand one of the voices of the Egyptian people, even if other Egyptians thought very different things about the U.S.
➔ 1950: America allati Ra’aytu (“The America I have seen”). He praised American technology but deplored:
- American superficiality;
- American individualism;
- American materialism;
- American primitiveness;
- American lack of artistic feeling;
- American “animal-like” mixing of the sexes.

But other intellectuals had an opposite view of the U.S.
