Marcella Militello

I have graduated from my Linguistic and Cultural studies and I’m studying in a Master in Political Sciences, International Relations with specialization in Peace, Security and Conflicts.
During my studies I worked in a project aimed at understanding the Caucasian conflict, with particular reference to the Chechen regions. At the end of my research I decide to centre my thesis for my degree around journalist Anna Politkovskaya and her fundamental role in this conflict as mediator. This study has increased my innate sense of justice and interest in defence of Human Rights.
I am currently working in UNESCO, specifically in the Division of Freedom of Expression, Democracy and Peace as an intern since July 2010. During my time here, I have been working closely, amongst other projects, in the Power of Peace Network programme (www.thepowerofpeacenetwork.com). I have also been assisting the division in the preparation and implementation of other projects, especially on UNESCO Media Journalistic Standard and Codes of Ethics Website (www.unesco.org/new/en/communication-and-information/freedom-of-expression/professional-journalistic-standards-and-code-of-ethics/).
Moreover, I have been supporting the coordination between UNESCO HQ and field offices, as well as with non-governmental organizations.
Further, I have lent my assistance to the preparation of briefings, reports, background papers, speeches, policy guidelines, strategy documents, agreements, both in general and specifically regarding conference planning. I have also contributed to creating and updating communication tools aimed at increasing the visibility of the division´s projects, by drafting briefings and stories to be featured on the Communication and Information Sector´s website.

Thanks to my linguistic and socio-cultural studies, I am able to take advantage of the several languages she is fluent in and her familiarity with different social realities, capably using this knowledge to enrich my work.. My interest in the field of international relations and the studies I am currently pursuing are providing me with a solid grounding in economics, law, history, politics; as well as allowing me to develop a more critical and professional view on world affairs.
Moreover I would like to underline my ability to make the best use of mass media and to intelligently manage information .
I eager to become an integral part of an organisation involved in the defence of Human Rights.
Capitalizing on my studies, I’m seeking a professional opportunity where my thirst for knowledge could be satisfied and my skills improved and where I could, perhaps, be of benefit to others. With this goal in mind, I would like to outline my capabilities:
~     Solid competence, oral and written, in Italian, English and French languages.
~     Basic competence, oral and written, in Russian and Spanish languages.
~     Extensive and solid cultural knowledge in the aforementioned areas.
~     A sufficient grounding in economics, law, history, politics, sociology and cultural anthropology.
~     Ability to make the best use of mass media and to manage information.
~     General knowledge of social and inter-ethnic issues.
