History of the Arab World: During World War II


1941: government of ALI MAHER in Egypt: he admired Mussolini and supported the “green shirts” (the equivalent of Italian “black shirts”).

Reza Shah abdicates ➔ Muhammad Reda. Many countries were created and they had the possibility to keep taxes for themselves and not to send them to Istanbul.

1944: BA’TH party: socialist nationalist party in Syria, founded by a Christian and a Muslims under the idea to overcome the traditional divisions to have a more secular state and a modern citizenship ➔ vanguard ideals: they crashed when the leadership of the religious groups went into the hands of small groups of militaries.
