Il pensiero di McLaren sull'arte

Come si capisce dal film Neighbours (1952), un altro aspetto importante per McLaren è il fatto che l'arte sia morale. Questo tipo di arte è la più importante in quanto in essa predomina l'appello ai nostri sensi e alle parti essenziali dell'essere umani. Secondo lo stesso McLaren 

The good moral work of art should have all the qualities that a good amoral work of art should have, such as formal unity, balance, contrast and a sensitivity to the material out of which it is made. But, it has, in addiction, an even more precious quality – a consciousness of the human intelligence, the human spirit an that man is a social creature.
