Demetrio Innocenti

Demetrio Innocenti obtained his Master of Science degree with distinction in Tropical Agriculture during the academic year 2000/2001 at University of Florence, Italy (Italian Laurea).
Innocenti’s final dissertation consisted in a research study, carried out in Ethiopia, within an international research team (Italy-UK-Ethiopia). The research was about the environmental evolution of Rift Valley soils (Ethiopia) and the impact of weather changes on local population. The dissertation findings are currently subject for a publication with the Department of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition of the College of Agriculture and Forestry, University of Florence.
In September 2002, Demetrio Innocenti obtained its admittance to the European professional body of the Agronomy and Forestry Engineers and became a full member of the body in January 2004.
Innocenti started his employment experiences in November 2000, serving for 7 months as University sponsored Soil Science Trainee in Ethiopia and Italy.
In 2001, he joined for 4 months the Istituto Agronomico per l'Oltremare (IAO), a branch of the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, acting as a technical-scientific body for studying, training, consulting and providing technical assistance in the field of tropical and subtropical agriculture and environmental protection.
Demetrio Innocenti first long-term professional assignment is dated September 2002, when he was hired by the International Organization CESVI as Technical Advisor and subsequently as Project Manager in Laos, in the framework of the European Union funded food security project “Improvement of Food Security in Phone Xay Highland, Luang Prabang Province, Lao P.D.R”.
As a short-term consultant, he worked in Laos as Agronomist for IRRI (International Rice Research Institute), performing an assessment study in the framework of the research programme “Increased productivity of rice based cropping systems in Lao PDR”.
In 2004 he continued to work as consultant for an Italian International Development Organization, Sviluppo 2000, designing rural development project proposals and for a French firm Migrations et Développement (M&D) where he assisted the design of a rural development project proposal to promote agribusiness in Morocco.
Demetrio Innocenti is currently employed at FAO Representation in the Philippines; in his capacity as FAO Research Fellow, he is providing technical support to FAO projects carrying out research on Poverty Reduction and providing technical assistance in the area of Planning, Project Development and Monitoring and Evaluation.
In addition, Demetrio Innocenti is currently enrolled as postgraduate student at the Imperial College London, (UK) studying Managing Rural Development under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Kydd.
