Promote the Olympic Games in London: Innovations for the event

The cloud


In occasion of the Olympic games, one of the most original idea proposed to the organizers is the “Cloud”, a metallic tower composted of bubbles, used in order to show  informations from the world.
The tower is transparent, it consists of spheres that emit light and produce energy, and boils that transmit images and information such as weather or news about the Olympics. The overall structure resembles the idea of a digital large cloud, hence the name "The cloud”.
The support tower of the bubbles will use the heat generated to create a current of air in public spaces and water to move microturbine.
Besides the funny aspect of the project, “Cloud” will be able to produce more energy than consumed and it could serve to provide East London. If the project should be approved, the property will remain in London from 2012 until 2016, when the Olympic Games will move to Rio de Janeiro.


Double-decker bus Olympiad 2012


United Kingdom government issued a competition with the purpose to choose the designer who must deal with the restyling of the double-decker bus, one of the most famous transportations of the city, in occasion of the Olympic games.
Thomas Heatherwick is the winner of the competition. His project provides soft lines and an extensive use of glass in order to create a space wider and more airy.
The double-decker bus is a characteristic of the city and, during the Olympic games, his function will be to facilitate to the visitors the displacements from a structure to another. On the sides of the bus, there will be the posters of the event, to publicize the sporting competition.


Underground for Olympic games


As regards the other types of public transports, the Transport for London (TFL) is working hard to improve the carriages, as a result of the initial negative opinion gave to the public transport of London. For example one of the most important project is the expansion of the Overground’s East London Line upgrades to the Docklands Light Railway and the North London Line.
Another development is the introduction of the new "Javelin" high-speed rail service, using the Hitachi Corporation's "bullet" trains. The service will run for the period of the Olympic games, transporting about 240,000 travellers for hour. It is expected that over 80% of Olympic spectators will travel to and from the venues by rail.

 

Connectivity wi-fi throughout London


In occasion of the Olympic games London will be covered by a big bubble wi-fi and all those who will be in the English capital may access to the network. The project will foresee thousands of hotspots spread over light poles and bus stops so that most of the public paths can be covered enabling connections on the move. The purpose is promote the approach to the web and streamline traffic of telephone lines.
